New Google Nexus One is a new HTC mobile phone that uses Android OS combined with an attractive touchscreen. It offers many improvements in any aspects of its predecessor the HTC Dream.

Featured with the latest Android 2.1, the Nexus offers an AMOLED capacitive touchscreen that makes the display very clear and sharp, though it looks rather unclear under direct sunlight.

To make more interactive with the users, the Nexus One provides an attractive live wallpaper. The wallpaper is not just static images or photos but they response to the user’s touch. For example, if you customize the wallpaper with a water image and you touch it with your finger, the display will response like real water that is touched its surface. It also responses to the song played if you choose equalizer wallpaper.

Beside the touchscreen display, you find also sensitive four soft-keys and a trackball navigation that allow you to accurately and quickly navigate the menus.

Google really pays more attention to connectivity features so it combines the phone with a web browser. The Palm Pixi Phone (Sprint) comes out with an innovative WebOs operating system that offers great multitasking abilities. Compared with the Palm Pre, the Pixi is cheaper and smaller phone that is suitable for the youngsters. Although this sleek smartphone doesn’t feature wi-fi and has only 2 megapixel camera, the Palm Pixi provides an improved keyboard, enhanced management and messaging features, 3G, bluetooth and GPS.

The Palm Pixi measures 4.37 inches wide by 0.43 inch thick and weighs 3.26 ounces. Though it looks so slim and light as a smartphone, the Palm Pixi has great soft touch finish that will sit comfortably in your hand without feeling plasticky or slick like the Palm Pre. For the screen display, the Palm Pixi features a 2.63 capacitive touchscreen with a 320×400 resolution that is quiet bright and sharp as well as responsive when you press. In addition, the Pixi has proximity sensor so the display automatically turns off when you are on call to avoid accidental misspress when holding the phone on the ear.

Combined messaging – Synergy lets you see all your conversations with the same person in a chat-style view, even if it started in IM and you want to reply with text messaging. You can also see who’s active in a buddy list right from contacts, and start a new conversation with just one touch.

As I mention above, the Palm lacks Wi-Fi but as a phone for youngsters or for people who are new to smartphone, it has other important features that are more important for their needs. This Palm Pixi has supported with EV-DO Rev. A network that offer high speed internet access. For example: this phone took 1 minute and 30 seconds for donloading mp3 from Amazon.

As a phone, the Palm Pixi’s sound quality is good, not outstanding but definely good. You can hear clear and loud voice from its speakerphones and no complaints when speaking to other persons.

Bottom Line
Although you do not find Wi-Fi in this phone for your internet connection alternative, the Palm Pixi really offers great features with very reasonable price. If you are looking for smartphone, this Palm Pixi should be your option.

HTC Hero With Google Phone (Sprint)

HTC Hero With Google Phone for Sprint has the same design with MyTouch 3G but the HTC Phone is much better. You do not find plasticky and slicky as it has soft touch finish throughout the body and the brushed metal plate just under the front display. It measures 4.6 x 2.2 x 0.54 inch that makes it look smooth and slim.

The HTC features 3.2 inches capacitive touchscreen with built-in light sensor that adapts the brightness automatically to the current situation. So, you are able to read and see clear images and graphics in every environments. Although the screen is responsive but it only responses to the finger touch not fingernail or stylus.

The Hero is also featured with accelerometer technology that will change the display automatically to a horizontal or vertical orientation mode respectively. However, not all application can be run in horizontal mode as it only supports for photos, email and web browsing.

How about the keyboard and keypad?

The HTC Hero for Sprint is featured with QWERTY keyboard both in vertical and horizontal mode in the screen. In vertical mode, I found that the keys cramped and sometimes I mispress. But with litle practice I was used to it and it is ok so far. However, you can change the display to horizontal to get more spacious keys.

What is HTC Sense?

I can say the the HTC sense is the strong point features that makes the HTC Hero quiet different with all smartphones. With this features, you can customize the device to your lifestyle and personality. You will get seven interesting panels that can be customized with various widgets and shortcuts.

Other features that are also important are the 3.5mm headphone jack on the top of the device, USB connector, 5 megapixel camera and microSD expansion.

Speaking about Palm Pre Plus Phone, we immediately notice that the Plus is the improvements of its predecessor, the Palm Pre. The Plus of course comes out with revamped keyboards that improves the overall look and feel of the device. The new Mobile Phone also supports for a big 16 GB internal memory and a double RAM that provides a high speed performance.

If you see the Palm Pre Plus, at first glance you do not know the different with the original Palm Pre Phone as both have the same measure (3.9×2.3×0.67 inches), the same multitouch screen ( 3.1-inch HVGA) and a slider design. However, the Plus have improved the overall look and feel of the device. You do not find out the center knob as on the Palm Pre’s that takes you to the Deck of Card View. It’s integrated into the gesture area to provide sleek and slim design. It also allows you to experience the smoothness when pressing the keys and moving your fingers from side to side.

Features

One of the strong points of the Palm Pre Plus is Palm WebOS 1.3.5.1 that lets you manage applications at a time, unlike any other mobile platform today. We tried it out on our review unit and the feature worked like a charm. After turning on the mobile hot spot and setting up our password, we were able to tether three devices to the Pre Plus, including our Lenovo ThinkPad T61 laptop and iPod Touch, without any problems and achieved fairly decent speeds. Based on five Speedtest.net tests conducted around the Manhattan area, download speeds averaged 1.214Mbps and upload speeds averaged 0.442Mbps.

Bottom Lines

The Palm Pre Plus smartphone comes out with improvements of the original Palm Pre. Beside the revamped keyboard that makes you enjoyable when typing, pressing the keys and moving your fingers across the keypad, the Plus supports for the new WebOs that allows you to manage many application at a time. It of course makes you faster when doing your tasks. The 16 GB internal memory, double RAM and Mobile Wi-Fi Router are other great features. However, the sound that comes out from the speakerphone is not the best but you can still optionally use the headsets that are compatible with the smartphone for a better result.
